MOURNING the death of Andrew A. Daly Jr.,
distinguished veteran of the United States Navy,
honored member of the Fire Department of the City of
New York, and devoted family man
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished individuals whose lives of courage, service,
and devotion to family and community have left an enduring legacy upon
the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Andrew A. Daly Jr., a resident of Montrose, New York,
passed away on March 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving
wife and daughters; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 4, 1936, in the Yorkville section of
Manhattan, New York, Andrew A. Daly Jr. was the son of Andrew and
Elizabeth Cowan Daly, Scottish immigrants who instilled in him the
values of resilience, faith, and hard work; and
WHEREAS, Andrew A. Daly Jr. graduated from Manhattan High School of
Aviation Trades in 1954 and, at the age of 17, entered the United States
Navy with the consent of his parents, beginning a lifelong commitment to
service and duty to country; and
WHEREAS, Following his honorable military service, Andrew A. Daly
Jr. returned home to New York City, where he met Ann V. Fallon, his
beloved wife and lifelong companion, and together they were united in
marriage on October 22, 1960, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in
Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, Andrew and Ann Daly shared a remarkable 65-year marriage
defined by deep devotion, enduring love, and unwavering partnership,
finding their greatest joy in their family and in the friendships they
nurtured throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, In April of 1961, Andrew A. Daly Jr. began a distinguished
career with the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), serving
with courage, strength, and dedication in Ladder 17, 17-2, and Engine
79, including service during the demanding "War Years" period when he
exemplified extraordinary commitment under challenging conditions; and
WHEREAS, Andrew A. Daly Jr. was a proud and respected member of
Ladder 17, known as the "Green Berets," and was deeply honored to be
part of the FDNY brotherhood, which he held among the highest callings
of his life; and
WHEREAS, After 31 years of dedicated service, Andrew A. Daly Jr.
retired from the FDNY in 1992, leaving behind a legacy of bravery,
professionalism, and selfless service to the people of New York City;
and
WHEREAS, Andrew A. Daly Jr. was a devoted member of the FDNY Emerald
Society and the Holy Name Society, and remained steadfast in his faith
as a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick's Church, guided throughout his
life by principles consistent with the Beatitudes; and
WHEREAS, Above all, Andrew A. Daly Jr. was a loving and devoted
husband, father, and grandfather whose family was the center of his
world; and
WHEREAS, He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann V. Daly; his
daughters, Kelliann Lenzi and her husband Christopher, Jennifer McHale
and her husband James, and Alison Daly; and his cherished grandchildren,
Andrew and fiancee Dakota, Meghan, Blair and her husband Daniel, James
and his wife Allison, Liam, Aidan, Declan, and Maeve; and
WHEREAS, Andrew A. Daly Jr. took immense pride in his role as "Pop,"
attending games, school plays, graduations, and family milestones, and
sharing in the everyday joys of his grandchildren's lives with boundless
love and devotion; and
WHEREAS, He is further survived by his sister Mary Leonard; his
brother Robert Daly; his lifelong friend and brother-in-law Patrick
Fallon and his wife Diana; his sister-in-law Alice Fallon; along with
many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in New York and Scotland; he
was predeceased by his brothers-in-law John Fallon and Thomas Leonard,
and his sister-in-law Catherine Danaher; and
WHEREAS, Andrew A. Daly Jr. will be remembered as a man of quiet
strength, deep faith, unwavering loyalty, and profound love for his
family, country, and fellow firefighters, whose life exemplified
service, honor, and devotion; and
WHEREAS, The passing of Andrew A. Daly Jr. is a profound loss to his
family, the Fire Department of the City of New York, and all who were
privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Andrew A. Daly Jr., honoring his distinguished
military service, his heroic career with the Fire Department of the City
of New York, and his extraordinary devotion to family and community; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Andrew A. Daly.
