MOURNING the death of James D. Cooper,
distinguished United States Navy veteran and
longtime Westchester County resident

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens whose lives and service contributed
to the strength and character of their communities and the State of New
York; and

WHEREAS, James D. Cooper, a respected resident of Montrose, New
York, and formerly of Pleasantville, New York, died peacefully on March
9, 2026, at the age of 74; and

WHEREAS, James D. Cooper lived a life marked by dedication to his
country, commitment to his profession, and devotion to his family and
community; and

WHEREAS, Born to Norman and Alice Cooper, both of whom predeceased
him, James D. Cooper was raised with values of integrity, hard work, and
service which guided him throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, James D. Cooper graduated from Pleasantville High School in
1969 and continued his education at Westchester Community College,
demonstrating a lifelong appreciation for learning and personal growth;
and

WHEREAS, In faithful service to the United States of America, James
D. Cooper honorably enlisted in the United States Navy and served from
1971 through 1974, answering the call of duty with honor and patriotism;
and

WHEREAS, Following his military service, James D. Cooper pursued a
successful career in the supermarket industry spanning more than three
decades; and

WHEREAS, Through years of dedicated employment and leadership, James
D. Cooper earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike,
ultimately serving as a manager with Food Emporium, owned by A&P
Supermarkets, until his retirement in 2011; and

WHEREAS, James D. Cooper will be remembered for his steadfast work
ethic, quiet dignity, loyalty to family and friends, and enduring
commitment to those around him; and

WHEREAS, He is survived by his loving brother, Ronald Cooper and his
wife, Carol; his cherished niece, Robin Stoutenburg and her husband,
Christian; his nephew, Daniel Cooper and his wife, Meagan; and four
beloved grandnieces, together with extended family members and friends
who will forever treasure his memory; and

WHEREAS, The loss of James D. Cooper is deeply felt by all who knew
him, and his life stands as a testament to honorable service,
professional dedication, and devotion to family; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of James D. Cooper, recognizing with gratitude his
military service, professional accomplishments, and lasting
contributions to his community and the people of the State of New York;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of James D. Cooper.
