MOURNING the death of Dr. Robert B. Laibowitz,
distinguished scientist, devoted citizen, and valued
member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert B. Laibowitz of Cortlandt Manor, New York, died
on Thursday, May 14, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Robert B. Laibowitz distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of Yonkers High School, Robert B. Laibowitz
continued his education at Columbia University where he earned his BA,
BS, and MS degrees in electrical engineering; he went on to complete his
PhD in Engineering Physics at Cornell University; and

WHEREAS, Robert B. Laibowitz's professional legacy is defined by a
remarkable 46-year career at IBM Research; and

WHEREAS, A Fellow of the American Physical Society, Robert B.
Laibowitz authored over 170 scientific papers and held more than 35
patents, leaving an indelible mark on his field; and

WHEREAS, Robert B. Laibowitz's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Ever dedicated to the field of education and service to his
community, Robert B. Laibowitz served on the Hendrick Hudson School
District Board of Education for a decade, advocating for the next
generation of learners; and

WHEREAS, Robert B. Laibowitz is survived by his loving wife of 67
years, Laura; his children, Kenneth (Nora), Mathew (Andrea), and
Danielle (David); his sister, Janice; and six grandchildren, Benjamin,
Hannah, Juliana, Rebecca, Rachel, and Desibella; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Robert B. Laibowitz leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dr. Robert B. Laibowitz, distinguished scientist,
devoted citizen, and valued member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dr. Robert B. Laibowitz.
