MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
September 13-19, 2026, as Truck Driver Appreciation
Week in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to highlight the vital role and value
of the men and women who deliver the essential goods and resources
needed by all citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim September 13-19, 2026, as
Truck Driver Appreciation Week in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Truck drivers play a vital and indispensable role in the
economy of the State of New York and the United States by ensuring the
safe and timely transportation of goods, materials, food, medicine,
fuel, and other essential products; and

WHEREAS, The trucking industry in New York supports over 300,000
jobs statewide and pays more than $22.5 billion annually in wages,
demonstrating the industry's substantial economic impact throughout the
State; and

WHEREAS, The trucking industry is the primary means of transporting
goods in New York State, supporting commerce, manufacturing,
agriculture, construction, retail operations, healthcare systems, and
countless other sectors essential to daily life; and

WHEREAS, Professional truck drivers work tirelessly under demanding
conditions and often spend long periods away from their families in
order to maintain the supply chains upon which businesses, hospitals,
schools, and communities depend; and

WHEREAS, Truck drivers demonstrated extraordinary dedication and
resilience during times of emergency and economic uncertainty, including
during the COVID-19 pandemic and other crises, ensuring that essential
supplies reached communities throughout the State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Truck Driver Appreciation Week provides an opportunity to
recognize and honor the professionalism, sacrifice, commitment to
safety, and hard work of the men and women who keep America's highways
and supply chains moving; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper to acknowledge the contributions
of truck drivers and to express gratitude for their service to the
people and businesses of New York State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim the week of September
13-19, 2026, as Truck Driver Appreciation Week in the State of New York;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York, and to such other persons and organizations as may be deemed
appropriate.
