COMMENDING the 1934 Nott Terrace High School Cross
Country Team upon the occasion of being honored at
the Special Legacy Tribute during the 28th Annual
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame and Reunion Dinner on September 14, 2026

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride to their school and
community through outstanding achievements in competition, attaining
unprecedented success and the highest level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the 1934 Nott Terrace High School Cross Country Team upon the
occasion of being honored at the Special Legacy Tribute during the 28th
Annual Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame and
Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Event Center at
Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady, New York; and

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, teamwork, and team spirit, and
is nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the youth of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, Coached by Bill Eddy, the 1934 Nott Terrace High School
Cross Country Team won the American Interscholastic Cross-Country
Championship in Newark, New Jersey, defeating 59 high schools and
preparatory schools from around the United States and Canada; and

WHEREAS, Coach Bill Eddy's ability to hone the skills of
championship teams was evident during this time period, as this was one
of seventeen won by his Schenectady High School and Nott Terrace High
School teams; and

WHEREAS, Team members Ray Vacca and Richard Slade were both selected
on the 1934 All-American Cross-Country Team; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and teams of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the 1934 Nott Terrace High School Cross
Country Team: Ray Vacca, Richard Slade, Cletus Stamper, Captain Mathew
Eggleston and John Foley on their sustained excellence and overall team
record; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the families of team members and coaches of the 1934 Nott
Terrace High School Cross Country Team.
