COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Harmony
Corners Fire Department to be celebrated on August
8, 2026
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the 100th
Anniversary of the Harmony Corners Fire Department and to honor its past
and present firefighting members for 100 years of fire protection to the
citizens of eastern portions of the Town of Galway and its surrounding
communities; and
WHEREAS, The Harmony Corners Fire Department was formed in 1926,
holding clambakes and dinners to raise money, ultimately purchasing a
1918 chemical truck which was housed in a barn; and
WHEREAS, The Harmony Corners Fire District was established in 1928,
with early meetings held in Harmony Hall, and tax money was appropriated
for the first firehouse; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, the Department shared the
Harmony Hall building with the Farmer's Club, the Home Bureau, and the
4-H Club; and
WHEREAS, To serve and protect their neighbors more effectively, the
Harmony Fire Company built an addition in the year 1962; and
WHEREAS, As the years went on, trucks were added to keep the fleet
updated, additions to the building were completed, and today, the
Department operates at 1954 Amsterdam Road in Ballston Spa; and
WHEREAS, A celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Harmony
Corners Fire Department will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, and
feature a parade with giant puppets and a centennial program; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Harmony Corners Fire Department continues to
stay up to date with their training and equipment to assist the
community the best it can when it is needed; this esteemed fire
department, like others throughout Saratoga County, consists of
volunteers who want to help their community; and
WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community
protection services in every locality of our State; during the past 100
years, the courageous and devoted firefighters of the Harmony Corners
Fire Department have valiantly responded to all types of fire
emergencies and have won the praise and respect of the community which
they serve; and
WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the record of
the Harmony Corners Fire Department in public service and fire
protection is one to be envied; 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for 100
years, whenever the alarm sounded, these noble volunteers left their
homes and went to the aid of their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, The brave firefighters of the Harmony Corners Fire
Department are prepared to risk their lives every day to save the lives
of others and to protect homes and property from the destruction caused
by fire; and
WHEREAS, For an entire century, the well-trained, highly skilled
members of the Harmony Corners Fire Department have been dedicated to
providing effective fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency
medical services; and
WHEREAS, These volunteers, who are also our friends and neighbors,
are an invaluable resource to our community, and it is fitting and
proper to recognize these men and women who serve on a moment's notice
without expecting anything in return; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should
give special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the
betterment of their communities and publicly acknowledge the heroic good
works performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great Empire
State, their officers, and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Harmony Corners Fire
Department to be celebrated on August 8, 2026; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the hierarchy of the Harmony Corners Fire Department.
