Senate Resolution No. 307

MOURNING the death of Flo Hirsch, extraordinary
civic leader, loving mother and grandmother, and
devoted member of her community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Flo Hirsch was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Flo Hirsch, noting the
significance of her purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Flo Hirsch, the former president of the 63rd Precinct
Community Council in Brooklyn, New York, died on Thursday, January 16,
2025; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Bergen Beach, Brooklyn for 55 years, Flo
Hirsch served as President of the Bergen Beach Civic Association from
1983 to 2013; during her tenure, she spearheaded numerous community
initiatives, such as toy drives for disadvantaged children, coat drives,
disaster relief collections, and health fairs; she also organized annual
events including a Children's Holiday Party, a Community Holiday Party,
and a Senior Citizen Luncheon; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, for over 25 years, Flo Hirsch served as the
Director of Visiting Nurse Volunteer Services, where she fostered
volunteerism in Brooklyn; she oversaw the creation of lap blankets, baby
blankets, hats, and scarves for distribution to nursing homes,
coordinated efforts to provide wigs to cancer patients, and developed
programs to support new mothers and the homeless; and
WHEREAS, Flo Hirsch established the ultimate benchmark for civic
leadership, demonstrating through her actions how one individual can
drive meaningful change and set an example for others to follow; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her beloved husband, Irwin, who died on
January 18, 2004, Flo Hirsch is survived by her children, Melanie
(Alan), Robert, and Tara (Gary); and grandchildren, Sean (Becky),
Lindsey, Cody, Matthew and Sydnee; and
WHEREAS, Flo Hirsch's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through her family's vivid and happy memories; her insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives she touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Flo Hirsch leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who were
privileged to have known and loved such an amazing woman; she will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Flo Hirsch, and to express its deepest condolences to
her family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Flo Hirsch.
