COMMENDING Dr. Evelyn Castro and Medgar Evers
College upon the occasion of hosting the Black
Family Wellness Expo on March 15, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions and leaders who work tirelessly to promote
public health, community engagement, and wellness initiatives that serve
historically underserved populations; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Evelyn Castro, Senior Advisor to the President for Community
Engagement and Dean of the School of Professional and Community
Development at Medgar Evers College, and the organizers of the Black
Family Wellness Expo on the occasion of its Annual Event to be held on
Saturday, March 15, 2025; and
WHEREAS, The Black Family Wellness Expo is a vital community health
initiative, offering free medical services, including mammograms,
children's dental screenings, and blood donation drives, as well as food
pantry distributions to support families in need; and
WHEREAS, In addition to providing these essential health services,
the Expo will feature an integrative medicine panel discussion and
expert-led sessions covering critical topics in health care, reinforcing
the importance of education, prevention, and access to quality medical
resources; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Dr. Evelyn Castro and the dedicated
team at Medgar Evers College, this annual Expo has become a beacon of
health equity, community advocacy, and public service, ensuring that
individuals and families receive the care and information they need to
thrive; and
WHEREAS, This initiative reflects the enduring mission of Medgar
Evers College to serve as a hub for education, empowerment, and social
impact, fostering a healthier and stronger community; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper that this Legislative Body
recognize and celebrate the efforts of Dr. Evelyn Castro, Medgar Evers
College, and the dedicated healthcare professionals, volunteers, and
partners who make the Black Family Wellness Expo a success each year;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Evelyn Castro and Medgar Evers College upon the occasion of
hosting the Black Family Wellness Expo, recognizing their unwavering
dedication to public health, community service, and health equity; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Evelyn Castro, Senior Advisor to the President for
Community Engagement and Dean of the School of Professional and
Community Development at Medgar Evers College.
