COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of the Town of
Wappinger, New York, on May 20, 2025

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Town of Wappinger, New York, on
Tuesday, May 20, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1875 and formed from part of the Town of
Fishkill, the Town of Wappinger was named after the Wappani Native
Americans who previously resided there; in its early days, Wappinger was
a mill town which used Wappinger Creek to run approximately 30
factories; and

WHEREAS, In the year 2000, the Town of Wappinger, adding to its
already rich history, acquired Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park, a
99.7-acre estate perched above the Hudson River, offering breathtaking
views of the Hudson River Valley and housing the historic 1850 Carnwath
Manor and several other buildings which span centuries of history; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Town of Wappinger offers two marinas on the
Hudson River, and the Wappingers Central School District is the second
largest school district in the State of New York, consisting of the
Wappingers Junior High School and Roy C. Ketcham High School; and

WHEREAS, The Town of Wappinger is also home to the Hudson Valley
Regional Airport, formerly known as New Hackensack Field, a historic
site which has played a significant role in the region's development;
established during World War II, the airport has served as a hub for
both military and civilian aviation, contributing to the growth of the
community and the Greater Hudson Valley; today, the airport continues to
be a vital resource for both business and leisure travelers, enhancing
Wappinger's connectivity and economic vitality; and

WHEREAS, Rooted in history and thriving through the changes and
challenges over the years, the Town of Wappinger continues to exemplify
an exceptional quality of life for its residents, fostering a vibrant
environment for both work and recreation, while promoting strong
community connections; and

WHEREAS, The residents of Wappinger remain hopeful and optimistic
about the future of their community, which continues to be a picturesque
and dynamic place to call home, where families can flourish and grow;
and

WHEREAS, Honoring the Town of Wappinger for its rich past and
lasting impact on the State of New York, this Legislative Body is proud
to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of this resilient and thriving town;
now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Town of Wappinger, New York,
recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the
life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Town of Wappinger, New York.
