CONGRATULATING Mia Collins of Ballston Spa High
School upon the occasion of capturing the 2025
NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championship title in the
132-pound Division on February 27, 2025
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Mia
Collins, who captured the 2025 NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championship
title in the 132-pound Division at the MVP Arena in Albany on Thursday,
February 27, 2025; and
WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of her excited fans, Mia Collins
won the state title by an 8-0 decision over her opponent from Huntington
High School; and
WHEREAS, Utilizing outstanding talent, Mia Collins won her second
consecutive state title, and for the first time, the NYSPHSAA girls'
wrestling championship was a fully sanctioned event, marking a
significant milestone for both Mia and the sport; and
WHEREAS, This win capped an impressive season for Mia Collins as she
finished with an overall record of 29-2, with 12 pins and a Section 2
Championship; and
WHEREAS, Earlier in the year, Mia Collins secured first place
finishes in both the 2025 Dame of Thrones competition and the Queen
Bison invitational; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this scholar athlete is
due in great part to the efforts and inspiration of a great team of
coaches and skilled tutors, all of whom are respected for their ability
to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, In addition to exceptional athletic performance between the
lines, Mia Collins excelled in the classroom garnering a 97.849 grade
point average; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed, and agility, Head Coach Dianna Acors and Assistant Coach
Colby Harblin worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching
this outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and
off the mat; and
WHEREAS, For her many achievements both athletically and
scholastically, Mia Collins has garnered a top 10 national ranking in
her weight class, according to USA Wrestling, and will attend Columbia
University in the fall; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mia Collins of Ballston Spa High School upon the occasion
of capturing the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championship title in the
132-pound Division on February 27, 2025; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mia Collins; the aforementioned coaches; Interim Director
of Physical Education, Health, & Athletics Joseph Guardino; Principal
Matthew Robinson; and Superintendent Dr. Gianleo Duca.
