CONGRATULATING Zariel Macchia upon the occasion of
capturing the 2025 NYSPHSAA High School Indoor Track
Championship in the 3,000-meter race

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly favored in
high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Zariel Macchia, upon the occasion of capturing the 2025 NYSPHSAA High
School Indoor Track Championship in the 3,000-meter race, at the Ocean
Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, New York, on Saturday, March
8, 2025; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of her excited fans, William
Floyd High School senior and track star, Zariel Macchia, captured her
seventh career New York State Championship, running a national best time
of 9 minutes, 21.73 seconds; additionally, this Olympic hopeful ran the
anchor leg of Suffolk's intersectional relay, leading her school to
victory in 10 minutes, 02.06 seconds; and

WHEREAS, Zariel Macchia has proven her athletic prowess in previous
years; some of her accomplishments and titles include Cross Country
Federation Champion, Cross Country State Champion, Track & Field State
Champion, four consecutive Suffolk County Class A Cross Country titles,
four-time All-American Honoree, three-time USATF National Youth 5K
Champion, and membership in the United States Squad at the World
Athletics U20 Championships; and

WHEREAS, Not only an outstanding athlete, Zariel Macchia is an
active student; some of her activities include her serving as Captain of
the Science Quiz Bowl Team and Captain of varsity track and field and
cross country teams, art, culinary arts, computer programming, robotics,
debate, STEP Science Club, and Science Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, In Shirley, New York, Zariel Macchia lives with her
parents, Peter and Alexandra, and her siblings, Vidal, Coral, Peter,
Leo, and Ellie; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride,
and accomplishment, and Zariel Macchia has clearly contributed to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Zariel Macchia upon the occasion of capturing the 2025

NYSPHSAA High School Indoor Track Championship in the 3,000-meter race;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Zariel Macchia.
