COMMEMORATING the 70th Anniversary of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Nu Omega Chapter

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.,
Zeta Nu Omega Chapter, to be celebrated at a Special Celebration at the
New Rochelle Library on Thursday, March 20, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is the oldest
Greek-letter organization established by African American
college-educated women; it was founded at Howard University in
Washington, D.C., on January 15, 1908; and

WHEREAS, Presently, there are more than 360,000 initiated members
within 12 countries, including the United States; the organization is
committed to sisterhood, scholarship, and service; and

WHEREAS, The Zeta Nu Omega Chapter was chartered on March 12, 1955,
in New Rochelle, New York, and is the oldest chapter in Westchester
County; the members have upheld the mission of service, education, and
advocacy, striving to empower individuals, uplift their communities, and
foster positive change; and

WHEREAS, Through a multitude of programs and initiatives, the Zeta
Nu Omega Chapter has been at the forefront of initiating community
efforts, providing service, and leading the way in the Westchester
Community; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, the Chapter's service projects have been
built around uplifting the family structure, enriching the educational
experience, raising awareness of health issues affecting women and
people of color, encouraging involvement in politics, promoting economic
and financial literacy, and developing more leaders in the community;
and

WHEREAS, Throughout seven decades, the contributions of the Zeta Nu
Omega Chapter have ranged from global activities, such as the adoption
of a school in West Africa, to local efforts, resulting in the
distribution of more than $750,000 in college scholarships to more than
600 young men and women in Westchester; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Nu Omega Chapter,
has established the Zeta Nu Omega Chapter EAF Endowment Fund, a fully
capitalized scholarship, in partnership with the AKA Educational
Advancement Foundation, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to honor and commend
the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Nu Omega Chapter,
past and present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure and
improve the quality of life for the communities they serve; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.,
Zeta Nu Omega Chapter; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Nu Omega Chapter.
