COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of
Canton-Potsdam Hospital

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations of distinction whose singular purpose is the care and
welfare of others; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Canton-Potsdam Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Potsdam Hospital, originally located at 37 Waverly Street,
began its journey of service to the community on March 13, 1925, by
admitting its first patient, marking the beginning of a century of
exceptional healthcare service; and

WHEREAS, As a not-for-profit community healthcare facility,
Canton-Potsdam Hospital has continuously provided high-quality care to
residents of St. Lawrence County, currently maintaining 94 certified
beds and offering a wide array of core programs, including emergency
medicine, acute care, hospitalist medicine, and critical care; and

WHEREAS, The hospital's commitment to accessibility and
comprehensive care extends beyond its main campus, offering outpatient
health services in Brasher Falls, Canton, Colton, Gouverneur, Massena,
Norfolk, and Potsdam, New York, ensuring healthcare is readily available
to communities throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, Canton-Potsdam Hospital provides care in more than 25
different specialties, including a distinguished orthopedic surgery and
sports medicine program, as well as the Center for Cancer Care,
strengthening its role as a leading healthcare provider in Northern New
York; and

WHEREAS, In 2018, Canton-Potsdam Hospital was recognized with Level
III Trauma Center Verification, affirming its ability to meet nationally
recognized standards for the care of critically injured patients and
reinforcing its capacity to provide immediate and comprehensive trauma
care for severe injuries, including those from car and motorcycle
accidents, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, traumatic brain injuries, burns,
and falls; and

WHEREAS, Canton-Potsdam Hospital is currently the only Level III
Trauma Center in St. Lawrence County, ensuring that patients in critical
condition can receive rapid, thorough, and expert care close to home;
and

WHEREAS, The hospital also offers a fully-equipped Critical Care
Unit and is designated as a Certified Primary Stroke Center,
underscoring its commitment to providing specialized care in critical
conditions and strokes; and


WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the vital importance of
Canton-Potsdam Hospital in providing excellence in care through
prevention, education and treatment, and its evident commitment to this
mission; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Canton-Potsdam Hospital,
recognizing and commending the hospital's unwavering dedication to
providing essential healthcare services to St. Lawrence County and
beyond, and acknowledging the invaluable contributions of its healthcare
professionals, staff, and leadership in making Canton-Potsdam Hospital a
trusted and vital institution within the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
