MOURNING the death of Alice Mae Goodson,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Alice Mae Goodson of Brooklyn, New York, died on Wednesday,
March 12, 2025, at the age of 100; and

WHEREAS, Born on March 26, 1924, to Floyd and Betty Springer in
Moultrie, Georgia, Alice Mae Goodson lived her early life in Georgia and
attended Moultrie High School where she became a star basketball player
and led her team to win the Georgia State Championship; and

WHEREAS, Shortly after graduating high school in 1944, Alice Mae
Goodson moved to New York; by 1956, her siblings Fannie, Floyd, and
Walter followed suit, and together they shared a home in Crown Heights,
Brooklyn, New York, until they each moved to their own homes; and

WHEREAS, Alice Mae Goodson distinguished herself by her sincere
dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of her community;
and

WHEREAS, In addition to working on Canal Street making sequins and
in a factory making slips and girdles, Alice Mae Goodson was a loving
maternal figure for many children, and she cared for and raised children
for family, friends, and people in her neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Alice Mae Goodson was a loving and caring individual, and
her home on Franklin Avenue was an open house for extended family,
church family, community family, and anyone who needed a home; and

WHEREAS, In 1957, Alice Mae Goodson and her sister, Fannie, began
attending the Sawdust Trail Tent revival and tarry services on Fulton
Street, which would later relocate and be renamed the Washington Temple
Church Of God In Christ; and

WHEREAS, Alice Mae Goodson's commitment to excellence, and her
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, The Washington Temple Church Of God In Christ was a
monumental part of Alice Mae Goodson's life for 71 years, and her
devotion led to her appointment as the Mother of the Junior Church and
eventual Church Mother in December, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Alice Mae Goodson shared her life with her loving husband
Robert Goodson, and together they shared the joy of raising six
children; and

WHEREAS, Alice Mae Goodson is survived by her five children, Shirley
Mae Springer Staten, Aaron Springer and wife Belinda Springer, Ricky
Goodson and wife Linda Goodson, Father Leon Pierre, husband of
Missionary Lisa Pierre, and Renita Goodson; 11 grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews;
cousins; in-laws; friends; and the entire Washington Temple Church Of
God In Christ family; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Alice Mae Goodson leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Alice Mae Goodson, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Alice Mae Goodson.
