HONORING Brendan Mitchell upon the occasion of his
of his induction into the Schenectady City School
District Athletic Hall of Fame on September 15, 2025

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride
to their school and community by achieving outstanding success in
competition, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Brendan Mitchell upon the occasion of his of his induction into the
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame at its 2025
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame & Reunion Dinner
on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Event Center at Rivers Casino &
Resort, Schenectady, New York; and

WHEREAS, Brendan Mitchell was a basketball standout at Mont Pleasant
High School where his 1979-80 team won the Big Ten Conference Title; he
also holds the distinction of being the all-time leading scorer in the
history of Schenectady public schools with 1,658 points making several
area high school All-Star teams; and

WHEREAS, Brendan Mitchell originally played college basketball at
North Carolina A & T and later transferred to Potsdam State (1984-1987),
where he helped lead Potsdam to three NCAA Division III East Regional
championships; and

WHEREAS, Achieving the pinnacle of team success, Brendan Mitchell's
1985-86 team at Potsdam State finished with an undefeated 32-0 record
and won the Division III National Championship; and

WHEREAS, Brendan Mitchell once shared the SUNYAC Men's Tournament
record for field goals in a game (14), and was the 1987 SUNYAC
Tournament MVP, a 1986 & 1987 Division III first team All-American, and
the 1986-87 NCAA Division III National Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Brendan Mitchell garnered an invite to try out for the USA
National Team (for the World Games) and was also invited to the NBA
pre-draft camp in Chicago following his senior season in college; and

WHEREAS, Recognized by his peers, Brendan Mitchell is a member of
both the Potsdam Athletic Hall of Fame and the Upstate New York
Basketball Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brendan Mitchell upon the occasion of his induction into the
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame on September 15,
2025; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brendan Mitchell.
