HONORING Tony Delgado upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District
Athletic Hall of Fame on September 15, 2025

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride
to their school and community by achieving outstanding success in
competition, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Tony Delgado upon the occasion of his of his induction into the
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame at its 2025
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame & Reunion Dinner
on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Event Center at Rivers Casino &
Resort, Schenectady, New York; and

WHEREAS, A standout in both basketball and track & field at Mont
Pleasant High School, Tony Delgado was the 1968-69 Class "A" League
basketball scoring champion, averaging 24.5 points per game as a senior;
and

WHEREAS, Tony Delgado set the Mont Pleasant High School season and
career scoring records, was a 1968-69 First Team All-Class "A" League
selection, and was named an honorable mention Prep All-American
Basketball player by Sunkist/Coach & Athlete Magazine; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his many accomplishments on the basketball
court, Tony Delgado was also the fifth best scholastic triple jumper in
the United States in 1969, capturing the triple jump crown at the Eddy
Meet in the same year and was once ranked fourth on the all-time State
triple jump list setting the Section II triple jump record, as well as
the Section II Class "A" Meet long jump record; and

WHEREAS, At the 1969 State Meet, Tony Delgado's triple jump effort
(47' 11") surpassed the previous record set by Bob Beaman, a future
Olympic Gold Medalist; and

WHEREAS, Tony Delgado currently has the fifth best triple jump and
the eighth best long jump in Section II history, and although he drew
interest from the likes of Villanova and Kansas for track and field, he

ultimately accepted a basketball scholarship from Siena College where he
was a Freshman All-Northeast Collegiate Conference selection; and

WHEREAS, Tony Delgado played pro basketball in Puerto Rico where he
won team MVP, and is a proud member of the Greater Capital Region Track
& Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tony Delgado upon the occasion of his induction into the
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame on September 15,
2025; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tony Delgado.
