COMMEMORATING the official launch of the Spice
Generation Dance Company

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate organizations that enrich the cultural fabric of New York
State and contribute to the preservation of heritage through the arts;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
longstanding traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to commemorate
the official launch of the Spice Generation Dance Company, to be held on
Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Founded under the visionary leadership of Latoya
Stanisclaus-Torrington, the Spice Generation Dance Company was
established with a mission to preserve, promote, and celebrate Grenadian
and Caribbean cultural traditions through dance, providing a vibrant and
dynamic platform for artistic expression and intergenerational
knowledge-sharing; and

WHEREAS, Rooted in the rich cultural legacy of Grenada-also known as
the "Isle of Spice"-the company serves as a beacon of pride for the
Caribbean diaspora, showcasing traditional and contemporary dance styles
that reflect the rhythm, spirit, and resilience of the region; and

WHEREAS, The company seeks to inspire youth, strengthen cultural
identity, and foster community engagement by offering performances,
workshops, and educational programs that highlight the significance of
Caribbean heritage within the broader mosaic of New York City's diverse
population; and

WHEREAS, The official launch of the Spice Generation Dance Company
marks a significant milestone not only for its founders and performers,
but also for the broader Grenadian and Caribbean-American communities
who find in it a celebration of their roots and a vision for cultural
continuity; and

WHEREAS, Events such as this serve as an important reminder of the
value of cultural preservation and the role the arts play in uniting
communities, building pride, and celebrating diversity; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the official launch of the Spice Generation Dance Company,
and to recognize its meaningful contributions to the preservation and
promotion of Grenadian and Caribbean cultural heritage; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Latoya Stanisclaus-Torrington, Director of the Spice
Generation Dance Company, in honor of this celebratory occasion.
