COMMEMORATING the 2025 Haitian Heritage Month
Flags Celebration hosted by Centre Culturel,
Spirituel et Traditionnel and Brooklyn's Little
Haiti
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate the diverse cultural heritages that contribute to the vibrancy
and strength of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the Haitian Heritage Month Flags Celebration to be held in
Brooklyn, New York, on Friday, May 16, 2025; and
WHEREAS, This annual celebration is co-hosted by the Centre
Culturel, Spirituel et Traditionnel and Brooklyn's Little Haiti, both of
which are dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural legacy,
spiritual traditions, and historical pride of the Haitian people; and
WHEREAS, The Haitian Flag, created on May 18, 1803, stands as a
powerful symbol of independence, unity, and resilience, commemorating
the courage and sacrifice of the Haitian people in their historic fight
to become the first Black republic and the first nation to abolish
slavery; and
WHEREAS, The Haitian Heritage Month Flags Celebration uplifts these
historic achievements while fostering pride, solidarity, and cultural
education among Haitian Americans and their allies in the broader
Brooklyn community; and
WHEREAS, Through cultural performances, music, traditional cuisine,
community resource engagement, and the ceremonial raising of the Haitian
flag, this celebration affirms the vital presence and contributions of
the Haitian diaspora in the social, cultural, and civic life of New York
City; and
WHEREAS, Events such as this serve as meaningful reminders of the
values of liberty, perseverance, and identity and underscore the
importance of preserving and celebrating cultural heritage for future
generations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 2025 Haitian Heritage Month Flags Celebration and to
applaud the work of Centre Culturel, Spirituel et Traditionnel and
Brooklyn's Little Haiti for their leadership in cultural preservation
and community engagement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the organizers of the 2025 Haitian Heritage Month Flags
Celebration in recognition of this proud and important occasion.
