CELEBRATING the 150th Anniversary of the MJHS
Isabella Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate milestone anniversaries of those institutions which have
demonstrated a long-standing commitment to serving the needs of their
communities with integrity, compassion, and distinction; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the MJHS Isabella Center for
Rehabilitation and Nursing Care; and

WHEREAS, The MJHS Isabella Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing
Care, a not-for-profit institution, has been a cornerstone of
compassion, dignity, and excellence in health care since its founding in
1875; and

WHEREAS, Since 1889, the Center has served as an integral part of
the Washington Heights community, providing culturally sensitive and
high-quality care to thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers, regardless of
background or income; and

WHEREAS, MJHS Isabella Center is home to 705 skilled nursing beds
and offers a continuum of services including short-term rehabilitation,
long-term residential care, memory care, therapeutic recreation, and
specialized care such as certified ventilator beds and a step-down
unit-ensuring that even the most complex needs are met with skill and
compassion; and

WHEREAS, The dedication of more than 950 staff members ensures that
patients, residents, and families receive unwavering support, expert
care, and comfort 24 hours a day, every day of the year; and

WHEREAS, The Center's beautiful four-acre campus, which includes
Isabella House-a residence for independent older adults-stands as a
model for integrated senior living, health, and wellness; and

WHEREAS, Through innovative community outreach efforts, such as the
Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) program and the Upper
Manhattan Partnership for Senior Independence (UMPSI), MJHS Isabella
continues to advance its mission of helping older adults thrive safely
in their homes and communities; and

WHEREAS, Since joining the MJHS Health System in 2017, the Center
has continued to uphold its proud tradition while innovating to meet the
evolving needs of an aging population; and

WHEREAS, On the occasion of its 150th Anniversary, it is fitting to
recognize the MJHS Isabella Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care
for its remarkable legacy of service and to commend its continued
commitment to excellence in elder care; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to honor institutions whose
enduring legacy and ongoing efforts exemplify the highest ideals of
public service and compassionate care; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the MJHS Isabella Center for
Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, and to express its deepest appreciation
for the center's historic and ongoing contributions to the health and
well-being of New York's aging population; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the MJHS Isabella Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing
Care.
