Senate Resolution No. 966

        HONORING  Brother Thomas W. Singleton for 75 years
        of service to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.,  and
        for a lifetime of leadership, brotherhood, and civic
        engagement
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to recognize
individuals whose enduring contributions to  public  service,  community
upliftment,  and fraternal excellence have left an indelible mark on the
lives of others and the history of this State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  proud  to honor
Brother Thomas W. Singleton upon  the  occasion  of  his  75th  year  of
service  to  Kappa  Alpha  Psi  Fraternity,  Inc., to be commemorated on
Saturday, May 17, 2025; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  proud  and  lifelong  resident  of  Bedford-Stuyvesant,
Brooklyn,  New  York, Brother Singleton, affectionally known as "Tommy,"
is a United States veteran, having served honorably  during  the  Korean
War, and is revered throughout the borough for his unwavering dedication
to his community, country, and fraternity; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Brother  Singleton  was  initiated  into  the Alpha Lambda
Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1950, and over  the  past
75  years  he  has  embodied  the  fraternity's  cardinal  principles of
achievement in every field of  human  endeavor,  earning  the  universal
respect and admiration of the Kappa brotherhood; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  his  current  role  as  strategus of the Brooklyn-Long
Island  Alumni  Chapter  and  as  a  representative  on   the   National
Pan-Hellenic  Council  -  Greater  New York Committee, Brother Singleton
continues to mentor, guide, and uplift  generations  of  young  leaders,
remaining  a  vibrant  and  vital  force  within  the fraternity and the
broader Divine Nine community; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  witness  to  and  a  participant  in  history,  Brother
Singleton  was  present at the historic 1970 initiation of Brother Percy
Sutton and has maintained an enduring presence in the Greater  New  York
Kappa community for over seven decades; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Widely  regarded  as a "Nupe's Nupe," Brother Singleton is
celebrated not only for  his  longevity  but  also  for  his  unwavering
spirit,  his  humility, and the love he shows to all who cross his path;
the recent celebration of his 90th birthday in 2024 is a testament to  a
life lived with purpose, excellence, and grace; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brother Thomas W. Singleton for 75 years of exceptional service to
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and for a  legacy  that  continues  to
uplift,  inspire,  and  exemplify  the  very  best  of  brotherhood  and
community service; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to  Brother  Thomas  W.  Singleton  in  recognition  of his
historic milestone and enduring contributions.
