COMMENDING the 1940 Nott Terrace High School Relay
Team upon the occasion of being honored as part of a
special Legacy Tribute during the 27th Annual
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame and Reunion Dinner on September 15, 2025

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride
to their school and community through outstanding achievements in
competition, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the 1940 Nott Terrace High School Relay Team upon the occasion
of being honored as part of a special Legacy Tribute during the 27th
Annual Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame and
Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Event Center at
Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady, New York; and

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, teamwork, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the youth of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, Coached by Athletic Hall of Famer Bill Eddy, the 1940 Nott
Terrace High School Relay Team won the 1940 Penn Relays Two-Mile Relay
Championship of America; and

WHEREAS, The Penn Relays are a very significant event in the world
of track and field as the oldest and largest track and field competition
in the United States, attracting thousands of participants and
spectators annually; and

WHEREAS, Members of 1940 Nott Terrace High School Relay Team
included Reggie Crocker, Tony Giavannone, Rob Russell and Schenectady
City School District Athletic Hall of Famer and future Notre Dame
standout, Bill Leonard; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as track and field, which demands stamina,
discipline and determination, Head Coach Bill Eddy worked hard to hone
the skills of this championship team, teaching them outstanding lessons
which proved invaluable both on and off the track; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and teams of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 1940 Nott Terrace High School Relay Team members:
Reggie Crocker, Tony Giavannone, Rob Russell and Bill Leonard; and Head
Coach Bill Eddy on their sustained excellence and overall team record;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members and coaches of the 1940 Nott Terrace High
School Relay Team.
