COMMEMORATING the 90th Anniversary of the Sylvan
Beach American Legion Post 1153

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
veterans' organizations which have positively impacted and substantially
contributed to the vitality of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Sylvan Beach American Legion
Post 1153 to be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1935, the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153
has been a cornerstone of the local community and a steadfast advocate
for veterans, their families, and the principles of American democracy;
and

WHEREAS, The Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153, was established
in response to the growing patriotic spirit, the need to support
returning service members and their families, and to uphold the values
they risked their lives to protect; and

WHEREAS, The Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153's first
commander was Isaiah "Ike" Head, a respected World War I veteran known
for his leadership, dedication, and deep connection to the Sylvan Beach
community; and

WHEREAS, Commander Head, along with the charter members, embodied
the American Legion's commitment to civic responsibility and veteran
advocacy, and under his guidance, the post laid the foundation for what
would become nearly a century of service; and

WHEREAS, A diverse and driven group of veterans who shared a common
goal, the charter members of the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153
worked tirelessly to build a place of unity, remembrance, and service by
organizing programs, assisting fellow veterans in their return to
civilian life, and fostering community engagement rooted in patriotic
values; and

WHEREAS, The Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153 continues to
honor, in all its worthy endeavors, the Four Pillars of the American
Legion: Americanism, Children and Youth, Veterans Affairs and
Rehabilitation, and National Security; and

WHEREAS, From parades and memorials to youth programs and veterans'
aid, the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153 continues to honor its
founding legacy while adapting to the evolving needs of veterans and the
broader community; and

WHEREAS, The Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153 and its members,
past and present, reflect a profound commitment to service, ensuring
that the sacrifices of America's veterans are never forgotten; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pride that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this important milestone in the history of the Sylvan Beach
American Legion Post 1153; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Sylvan Beach American Legion
Post 1153; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153.
