MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
February 19, 2026, as Cholangiocarcinoma Day in the
State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official days that are set aside to increase awareness of serious
illnesses that affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim February 19, 2026, as
Cholangiocarcinoma Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of World Cholangiocarcinoma Day; and

WHEREAS, The State of New York is pleased to recognize and observe
February 19, 2026, as Cholangiocarcinoma Day in commemoration of all
patients and caregivers impacted by the rare, lethal cancer; and

WHEREAS, The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation is the leading global
resource in research, education, and public awareness; and

WHEREAS, An estimated 10,000 people in the United States develop
Cholangiocarcinoma each year, and the mortality rate has increased
dramatically in the last decade; and

WHEREAS, Of the top eight deadliest cancers, seven are rare and
Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare cancer; and

WHEREAS, Rare cancers have a five-year survival rate under 50%, with
the Cholangiocarcinoma five-year survival rate being approximately 20%;
and there is currently no cure for Cholangiocarcinoma; and

WHEREAS, Foundations, research and teaching hospitals, rare cancer
advocacy groups, and patient advocacy groups from around the globe have
joined forces to recognize the third Thursday of February as World
Cholangiocarcinoma Day; and

WHEREAS, Increased Cholangiocarcinoma advocacy, awareness, research,
and education will bring improved outcomes for patients in earlier
detection and treatment and potential curative methods; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim February 19, 2026, as
Cholangiocarcinoma Day in the State of New York in efforts to support
the research for treatment and a cure of cholangiocarcinoma; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
