RECOGNIZING March 12, 2026, as Girl Scout Day in
the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
youth of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
recognize March 12, 2026, as Girl Scout Day in the State of New York;
and

WHEREAS, Girl Scouting in the United States began on March 12, 1912,
when founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Guide troop
meeting in Savannah, Georgia; for the 18 girls who were present, she
organized enrichment programs, service projects, and outdoor activities
and adventures; and

WHEREAS, In 1913, the organization was renamed to Girl Scouts of the
United States; its headquarters was subsequently moved to Washington,
D.C.; in 1915, the organization was incorporated, and its headquarters
was moved to New York City; and

WHEREAS, The organization was renamed for the final time to Girl
Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA) in 1947; the Girl Scouts
received a congressional charter on March 16, 1950; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, Girl Scouts of the United States of
America has grown to more than 3.7 million members; and

WHEREAS, Celebrated annually on March 12th, National Girl Scout Day
honors the organization's legacy, commitment to community service, and
celebration of girls' empowerment; and

WHEREAS, The success of Girl Scouts of the United States of America
is in direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize March 12, 2026, as Girl Scout Day in the State of New York,
celebrating its 114th Anniversary, and to honor its members, past and
present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the
quality of life for the youth of the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
