Assembly Resolution No. 1031

BY: M. of A. Buttenschon

CONGRATULATING Andrew Juliano upon the occasion of
capturing the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling
Championship title

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Andrew Juliano of Holland Patent High School upon the occasion of
capturing the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Championship title at the MVP
Arena in Albany, New York, on Saturday, February 28, 2026; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of his excited fans, Holland
Patent's top-seeded senior, Andrew Juliano, captured his second
championship; this win capped an impressive season for the wrestler who
entered the Division 2 tournament with a record of 42-5; he finished the
year with a 46-5 result; and

WHEREAS, As a sophomore, Andrew Juliano won the 101-pound state
crown, finishing with a 37-4 mark with 28 pins; and

WHEREAS, For two years, Andrew Juliano wanted to return to the MVP
Arena in Albany and win a second state wrestling title; after two
periods during Saturday's Division 2 title match, it appeared he would
come up short; and

WHEREAS, Golden Knights coach John Richard characterizes Andrew
Juliano as the type of athlete who performs despite an injury or a
points deficit, steeled to face a string of strong foes; despite having
endured two recent injuries, the 118-pound wrestler overcame his
discomfort, victoriously defeating his opponents; and

WHEREAS, The Holland Patent senior defied the odds by rallying from
a 7-2 deficit for a three-point takedown, followed by a four-point
near-fall in the third period, to key a 9-8 win against his
Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen opponent; and

WHEREAS, The talent displayed by this athlete is due, in great part,
to the efforts of an outstanding coach who has the ability to develop
potential into excellence; and

WHEREAS, In a sport, such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed, and agility, Coach John Richard worked hard to hone the
skills of this outstanding champion, teaching him lessons which will
prove invaluable both on and off the mat; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Andrew Juliano upon the occasion of capturing the 2026
NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Championship title; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Andrew Juliano and Coach John Richard.
