MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
March 22-28, 2026, as Cleaning Week in the State of
New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of cleaning organizations and front-line cleaning
professionals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim March 22-28, 2026, as
Cleaning Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with National
Cleaning Week; and

WHEREAS, Beginning on the fourth Sunday in March, Cleaning Week
celebrates the important impact that cleaning has on public health, the
environment, and the economy; this week also aims to raise public
awareness for the value of clean spaces, appreciate front-line
professionals, promote cleaning organizations, and advocate for the
cleaning industry; and

WHEREAS, Cleanliness is essential to public health, wellness, and
prosperity; clean spaces enhances productivity, boosts customer
satisfaction, preserves vital resources, and supports sustainable and
efficient practices; and

WHEREAS, In educational settings, improved air quality is linked to
fewer illness-related absences and higher academic performance; and

WHEREAS, According to the International Sanitary Supply Association
(ISSA), properly cleaned and disinfected surfaces reduce virus
concentrations by 41.7%, and when paired with effective hand hygiene,
that reduction increases to 85.4%; and

WHEREAS, Cleanliness directly supports a healthy workforce by
reducing absenteeism and presenteeism; in 2024, the global economy lost
an estimated $438 billion in productivity due to employees being unable
to perform at full capacity because of illness or injury; and

WHEREAS, From manufacturers and distributors providing essential
cleaning and hygiene products to front-line professionals maintaining
healthy and safe environments in our schools, hospitals, workplaces, and
public spaces, the individuals and organizations involved in keeping our
world clean play a vital role in protecting our communities every day;
and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body proudly recognizes and celebrates the
cleaning and facility solutions industry during this annual observance,
highlighting the importance of maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary
environments throughout the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, To welcome a fresh start in the spring, Cleaning Week
encourages people to discard unneeded items, declutter, and tidy up
their homes; this week also provides a dedicated time to celebrate and
thank the heroes who work hard to give us clean homes, and workplaces
where people can live and work in clean environments; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to

State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
