CONGRATULATING the Oswego Sub Shop upon the
occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2025
New York State Family-Owned Business of the Year
Award by the New York Small Business Development
Center

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those distinguished businesses within the State of New York
whose success and longevity strengthen their communities and serve as an
example of entrepreneurial excellence; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Oswego Sub Shop upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2025 New York State Family-Owned Business of the Year
Award by the New York Small Business Development Center; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious honor, conferred in August of 2025,
recognizes the Oswego Sub Shop's outstanding achievements as a
family-owned business, as well as its enduring commitment to quality,
service, and community engagement; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1969 by the Greene family, the Oswego Sub
Shop has remained a cornerstone of the Oswego community for 57 years,
guided by its founding principle of serving quality food by using high
quality, fresh ingredients; and

WHEREAS, Through decades of operation, the Oswego Sub Shop has
demonstrated remarkable resilience, thriving despite fierce competition
from pizza establishments, fast-food chains, and national sub shop
franchises; and

WHEREAS, Today, the business employs more than 40 individuals,
contributing significantly to the local economy and providing meaningful
employment opportunities within the Oswego area; and

WHEREAS, For 35 years, Bill Greene Sr. led the business and
established its solid reputation until 2002 when Bill Greene Jr. assumed
leadership of the business, continuing the legacy of excellence
established by his father, who remains a familiar and welcoming presence
behind the counter; and

WHEREAS, The Oswego Sub Shop has continually evolved to meet the
needs of its customers, including a 2008 expansion and renovation which
introduced an in-house bakery and enhanced operations, allowing for an
expanded menu featuring 60 varieties of subs, fresh salads, and baked
goods; and

WHEREAS, Beyond its commercial success, the Oswego Sub Shop has
demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the community, sponsoring youth
sports teams and supporting numerous local events, thereby enriching the
lives of residents throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, The establishment has also received national recognition,
including praise from NBC weatherman and SUNY Oswego alumnus Al Roker,
who, as a former regular customer, has declared the Oswego Sub Shop to
have "the best subs in America," an accolade further commemorated by the
naming of a signature sandwich, "The Roker," in his honor; and

WHEREAS, In May of 2025, the Oswego Sub Shop was named the North
Central Small Business Development Center at Onondaga Community
College's Small Business of the Year, further underscoring its
excellence and impact; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper to recognize businesses such as
the Oswego Sub Shop, whose dedication to quality, family values, and
community service exemplifies the very best of New York State's small
business community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Oswego Sub Shop upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2025 New York State Family-Owned Business of the Year
Award by the New York Small Business Development Center; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Oswego Sub Shop.
