CONGRATULATING Specialist Trevor Lock and Staff
Sergeant Derek Tucker upon the occasion of winning
the New York Army National Guard's 2026 Best Warrior
Contest

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those exceptional individuals whose dedication, courage, and
service strengthen the fabric of our State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Specialist Trevor Lock and Staff Sergeant Derek Tucker upon
the occasion of winning the New York Army National Guard's 2026 Best
Warrior Contest, held March 23-26, 2026, at Camp Smith Training Site in
the Hudson Valley; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Trevor Lock, a resident of Lockport and a member
of the Buffalo-based 105th Military Police Company, earned top honors in
the junior enlisted soldier category at the 2026 New York Army National
Guard Best Warrior Competition; and

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Derek Tucker, a resident of Corning and a
member of the 105th Military Police Company, was recognized as the top
non-commissioned officer in the same Best Warrior Competition; and

WHEREAS, The Best Warrior Competition is a prestigious and demanding
event conducted by National Guard units across the United States,
designed to identify those Soldiers who demonstrate the highest
standards of excellence and readiness; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the rigorous four-day competition, these
outstanding young men exemplified strength, perseverance, discipline,
and intellect, rising above every challenge with determination and
professionalism; and

WHEREAS, The annual competition tests each soldier's physical
fitness, marksmanship, tactical proficiency, and military knowledge
through a series of grueling and exacting events; and

WHEREAS, Competitors also completed a written examination and
demonstrated critical lifesaving abilities through a comprehensive
medical skills assessment; and

WHEREAS, The final challenge, a demanding 12-mile ruck march
carrying a 25-pound pack, required not only physical endurance but also
extraordinary mental resilience; and

WHEREAS, This competition is designed to replicate real-world
operational conditions, ensuring that participants are prepared to meet
the complex demands of modern military service; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Trevor Lock and Staff Sergeant Derek Tucker will
proudly represent the State of New York at the Northeast Regional

Competition at Camp Fogarty, Rhode Island, in June, where they will
compete for the opportunity to advance to the National Guard Best
Warrior Competition; and

WHEREAS, Through their unwavering commitment to duty, their
steadfast courage, and their selfless service, Specialist Trevor Lock
and Staff Sergeant Derek Tucker embody the highest ideals of military
excellence and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, It is both fitting and proper that this Legislative Body
recognize not only their remarkable achievement in competition, but also
their continued dedication to safeguarding the freedoms and security of
our Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate and honor Specialist Trevor Lock and Staff Sergeant Derek
Tucker upon the occasion of winning the New York Army National Guard's
2026 Best Warrior Contest; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Specialist Trevor Lock and Staff Sergeant Derek Tucker.
