COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Ithaca
Neighborhood Housing Services

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations whose purpose and accomplishments enhance
the quality of life in their communities and reflect enduring commitment
to the people of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Ithaca Neighborhood Housing
Services, an organization which has demonstrated unwavering dedication
to expanding access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing; and

WHEREAS, Established on September 28, 1976, Ithaca Neighborhood
Housing Services (INHS) was formed through the collaborative efforts of
local leadership, financial institutions, and residents, inspired by a
national model of community reinvestment that emphasized partnership and
neighborhood revitalization; and

WHEREAS, Since its founding, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services
has played a vital role in strengthening communities by developing,
preserving, and restoring affordable housing, while offering
comprehensive services including homeownership support, rental
opportunities, housing rehabilitation, and financial education; and

WHEREAS, Over the past five decades, the organization has undertaken
numerous impactful projects, contributing to neighborhood stability and
growth, including residential developments and community-centered
initiatives that have provided lasting benefit to individuals and
families throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services has distinguished
itself through a deeply rooted commitment to people-centered community
development, ensuring that its work reflects responsiveness to local
needs and promotes dignity, stability, and opportunity for residents;
and

WHEREAS, The organization has served as a model of excellence within
a national network of housing organizations, earning recognition for its
innovation, effectiveness, and leadership in advancing affordable
housing solutions; and

WHEREAS, In recent years, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services has
expanded its reach beyond its original geographic focus to serve
multiple counties, thereby broadening its impact and addressing housing
challenges across a wider region of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Demonstrating forward-thinking leadership, the organization
has also embraced environmentally sustainable building practices,
incorporating advanced energy-efficient standards and green technologies
to reduce costs for residents while promoting environmental stewardship;
and


WHEREAS, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services has provided critical
financial assistance and housing support to hundreds of individuals and
families, including first-time homebuyers and low-income residents,
thereby fostering economic stability and strengthening communities; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the organization has remained
steadfast in its founding principles of equity, inclusivity, and
neighborhood-focused service, continuing to adapt these values to meet
the evolving needs of the communities it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services is a
testament to the vision and dedication of its founders, staff, partners,
and community members, whose collective efforts have made a lasting and
meaningful difference over the past 50 years; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Ithaca Neighborhood Housing
Services, and to honor its enduring contributions to affordable housing
and community development in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services.
