COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of The Cider
Mill in Endicott, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The Cider Mill in Endicott, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Businesses such as The Cider Mill exert a strong positive
influence on the communities they serve and are a crucial element of the
economy of New York State; and
WHEREAS, The Cider Mill has stood as a cherished landmark for
individuals and families throughout the local community and across the
Empire State; their renowned products have satisfied many throughout
their century of operation; and
WHEREAS, The mill was established around 1926 as a working mill
where local farmers could bring apples to be pressed for a small fee
(roughly 2 cents per press during the Great Depression); and
WHEREAS, In 1942, Anthony Ciotoli Sr. acquired the property at 2
Nanticoke Avenue which originally housed a lumber business and an old
mill; his son Orlando Ciotoli restored the mill to its original purpose
of pressing cider, marking the start of a multi-generational family
legacy; and
WHEREAS, On a cold winter night in December 1971, a devastating
kitchen fire suspected to have started from a candy or caramel apple pot
completely destroyed the original building; the family rebuilt the mill
within a year, opening the familiar red barn structure that remains a
landmark today; and
WHEREAS, With its origins reaching back to 1926, The Cider Mill was
purchased by the Ciotoli family in 1942 and was sold to the Burke
family, a local Broome County business family, in 2025, marking the
first major ownership change in 83 years; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Cider Mill remains a celebration of the tastes,
smells, and traditions of fall in Upstate New York; each autumn, thou-
sands make their annual pilgrimage to enjoy signature fresh-pressed pure
apple cider, as well as an assortment of cinnamon-dusted cider donuts,
hearty apple pies, sweet breads, and other seasonal treats; and
WHEREAS, Committed to growth and valuable service to its patrons,
new additions to The Cider Mill include a specialty retail section, ice
cream, single-portion baked goods, coffee, and more; and
WHEREAS, For those who love the season of autumn, The Cider Mill
offers an unbeatable variety of crisp, flavorful New York State apples,
hand-picked for their exceptional quality; additionally, the business
offers a vibrant array of fall mums in many colors, festive pumpkins for
carving or decorating, colorful Indian corn, gourds, and a wide
selection of seasonal treasures that capture the essence of fall; and
WHEREAS, The former Cider Mill Playhouse, now known as the
BLAST/Cider Mill Stage, was founded by Dr. John Bielenberg in 1976 as an
extension of the Binghamton University theatre program; continuing to
thrive today, the Cider Mill Stage hosts a beloved adaptation of "A
Christmas Carol," a production that has graced the stage for 40 years;
and
WHEREAS, The success of The Cider Mill is in direct correlation to
the efforts of its hardworking and dedicated staff, all of whom are
considered integral parts of the success of the business; their
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the business and the community
it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling success it has experienced thus far; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The Cider Mill; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Cider Mill of Endicott, New York.
