COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of Davidson's
Furniture

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses that contribute
substantially to the economic vitality of their communities, thereby
enhancing the economic well-being of the entire Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Davidson's Furniture, to be
celebrated in 2026; and

WHEREAS, Founded by Alexander Davidson in 1876, Davidson's Furniture
has been serving the Hornell, New York, community for 150 years; and

WHEREAS, Over the last 150 years, ownership of Davidson's Furniture
has been passed down from father to son within the Davidson family; four
generations of Davidsons have owned and operated the store; and

WHEREAS, Alexander Davidson owned and operated Davidson's Furniture
from 1876-1920, then Alexander P. Davidson from 1911-1955, Adam T.
Davidson from 1953-2005, and currently, Mike Davidson has owned the
store since 1990; and

WHEREAS, The employees at Davidson's Furniture are just as committed
to providing the best service to community members as its owners; the
store's longest tenured employee, Angela Nasca, began working
immediately after high school at 18 years old, and remained at
Davidson's Furniture for 66 years; and

WHEREAS, Davidson's Furniture has been a staple in the Hornell
community since its inception, and it is the oldest store in Hornell; it
is believed that Davidson's Furniture is one of the oldest continuous
family-owned furniture stores in New York State, signifying its
endurance and decades of success; and

WHEREAS, The original Davidson's Furniture store was located on Main
Street in Hornell, but the store later moved to a location on Broadway,
and finally settled in its current location on Main Street as of 1970;
and

WHEREAS, The current store boasts three floors of merchandise and is
open seven days a week; customers who enter Davidson's Furniture will
find a wide selection of perfect and competitively-priced furniture for
every space in the home, including living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas,
home offices, entertainment setups, and flooring; and

WHEREAS, Current owner Mike Davidson is committed to keeping the
family legacy alive through Davidson's Furniture; with the help of his
wife, Sharon, who serves as the chief financial officer, and his sister,
Barbara McCarthy, along with the committed staff, Mike Davidson is

confident Davidson's Furniture will continue to serve Hornell for years
to come; and

WHEREAS, Outside of Davidson's Furniture, Mike Davidson is heavily
involved in the local community, and serves as a member and leader of
several organizations, including the Hornell Partners for Growth, the
Hornell Area Family YMCA, the Steuben County Industrial Development
Agency, and the Hornell Area Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the last century and a half, Davidson's
Furniture has played a crucial role in turning empty houses into
well-loved homes by providing the necessary furniture for families to
create countless memories; and

WHEREAS, In celebration of its 150 years of operation, Davidson's
Furniture currently has a commemorative banner outside its building, and
all patrons who enter the store in 2026 will receive a yardstick, which
is a nod to a practice that the store's original founder, Alexander
Davidson, once did; and

WHEREAS, The success of Davidson's Furniture is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff and owners, whose involvement
is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the community; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Davidson's Furniture, to be
celebrated in 2026; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Davidson's Furniture.
