COMMENDING Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity
upon the occasion of celebrating its 350th home
dedication on June 12, 2026
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly recognize those organizations within the State of New York
which have positively contributed to the well-being of their communities
and make a lasting impact on society; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity upon the occasion of
celebrating its 350th home dedication on Friday, June 12, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Operating under the Habitat for Humanity International
framework, Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit
organization headquartered in Rochester, New York, and serving Monroe,
Ontario, and Wayne Counties, making it one of the largest Habitat for
Humanity affiliates in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Guided by the mission to build strength, stability, and
self-reliance through shelter, and inspired by the vision that every
person deserves a decent place to live, Greater Rochester Habitat for
Humanity has significantly supported the lives of many New Yorkers
through its community programs and housing support; and
WHEREAS, On June 12, 2026, Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity
will celebrate the completion and dedication of its 350th home;
throughout its history, these homes have been utilized in affordable
housing programs for first-time homebuyers in need; and
WHEREAS, Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity was formed in
January 2023, after the merging of three separate volunteer communities:
Flower City Habitat for Humanity, formed in 1984; Habitat for Humanity
of Wayne County, formed in 1988; and Habitat for Humanity of Ontario
County, formed in 1990; and
WHEREAS, These three distinct organizations were primarily
volunteer-run and, prior to merging, had already been building and
rehabilitating homes in their respective regions of the State; and
WHEREAS, Now operating under the unified Greater Rochester Habitat
for Humanity, the volunteers, staff, and resources of these
organizations have combined and can now expand their reach and impact
across the three-county region; and
WHEREAS, Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity continues to
innovate and transform the communities it serves, and in December 2025,
the organization completed Rochester's first two-story modular home in
the Beechwood neighborhood, welcoming a new era of reduced building
costs and expanded access to affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished history spanning four decades,
Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity has demonstrated continuous
service to the residents and communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its staff and volunteers, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and
WHEREAS, The 350th home dedication is a significant milestone for
Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity, its staff, and its volunteers,
reflecting the combined legacy of its achievements and signifying the
bright and promising future ahead; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Greater Rochester
Habitat for Humanity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity upon the occasion of
celebrating its 350th home dedication on Friday, June 12, 2026; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity.
