COMMEMORATING the 75th Anniversary of the Sitrin
Health Care Center
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions whose dedication to serving others has
enriched the lives of countless individuals and strengthened the
communities of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Sitrin Health Care Center,
celebrating 75 years of health, healing, innovation, and compassionate
care; and
WHEREAS, Sitrin Health Care Center traces its origins to 1951, when
Hymen Sitrin, his wife Clara Sitrin, and sister-in-law Florence Sitrin
established a six-bed residence to provide around-the-clock care for
elderly and infirm members of the Jewish faith, naming the facility in
memory of Charles Theodore Sitrin; and
WHEREAS, What began as a small act of compassion and community
service quickly grew into a vital healthcare institution dedicated to
meeting the evolving needs of Central New York residents; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of 75 years, Sitrin has expanded from a
modest residence into a nationally recognized healthcare organization
serving individuals of all faiths, backgrounds, and abilities through a
broad continuum of care and support services; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Sitrin has consistently
demonstrated a commitment to innovation, becoming the first provider in
the region to offer numerous services, including a medically affiliated
Adult Day Health Care program, residential housing for medically complex
individuals with intellectual disabilities, and the first Comprehensive
Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility in the Tri-county area; and
WHEREAS, Sitrin has further enhanced the quality of life for
countless individuals and families through the development of childcare
services, outpatient rehabilitation programs, dental care services,
assisted living opportunities, and specialized residential care; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Sitrin launched the Sitrin STARS adaptive sports
program, providing opportunities for individuals with physical
disabilities to participate in athletic competition and recreation while
fostering confidence, independence, and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, The organization has continued to expand its leadership in
healthcare through the development of innovative long-term care models,
rehabilitation services, and specialized treatment programs, including
one of only a few NeuroCare Units in New York State serving individuals
affected by ALS and Huntington's disease; and
WHEREAS, Sitrin has also demonstrated an unwavering commitment to
the men and women who have served our Nation through its military
rehabilitation program, providing specialized care and treatment to post
9/11 veterans and injured service members at no cost to the patient; and
WHEREAS, For three-quarters of a century, Sitrin Health Care Center
has remained steadfast in its mission to provide exceptional care,
comfort, dignity, and hope to those facing illness, injury, disability,
and the challenges of aging; and
WHEREAS, The success and longevity of the Sitrin Health Care Center
stands as a testament to the vision of its founders and the dedication
of its trustees, administrators, physicians, nurses, therapists,
caregivers, staff members, volunteers, and supporters who have carried
forward its mission of service; and
WHEREAS, As Sitrin Health Care Center celebrates its 75th
Anniversary, it is fitting to recognize the organization's extraordinary
legacy of compassion, innovation, and service, and to honor its enduring
contributions to the health and well-being of the people of Central New
York and the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Sitrin Health Care Center and to
recognize its remarkable history of healthcare excellence, community
service, and dedication to improving the lives of others; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the leadership, staff, residents, patients, and
supporters of the Sitrin Health Care Center in recognition of this
significant milestone.
