COMMEMORATING the 110th Anniversary of the City of
Sherrill, New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those municipalities whose rich history, enduring spirit, and
commitment to public service have contributed to the strength and
prosperity of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 110th Anniversary of the City of Sherrill, Oneida
County, New York, founded in 1916; and

WHEREAS, Known as the smallest city in New York State, the City of
Sherrill has, for 110 years, exemplified the values of community, civic
pride, and responsible stewardship while providing an exceptional
quality of life for its residents; and

WHEREAS, Situated in the heart of Central New York within Oneida
County and the Town of Vernon, the City of Sherrill has developed into a
vibrant community where residents enjoy safe neighborhoods, excellent
educational opportunities, well-maintained parks, thriving local
businesses, and a strong sense of belonging; and

WHEREAS, The City of Sherrill traces its roots to the historic
Oneida Community, a utopian society established in 1848 whose legacy
helped shape the economic, social, and cultural foundations of the
region; and

WHEREAS, Following the dissolution of the Oneida Community, the
Oneida Community Limited emerged as a world-renowned manufacturer whose
silverware products earned international acclaim and established
Sherrill as a center of American industry and craftsmanship; and

WHEREAS, Proudly known as "The Silver City," Sherrill remains deeply
connected to its manufacturing heritage and continues to serve as a
symbol of American ingenuity and entrepreneurship; and

WHEREAS, The city's industrial legacy lives on through the continued
success of Sherrill Manufacturing, the only flatware manufacturer in the
United States producing its products entirely within this Nation,
preserving jobs, skills, and traditions that have defined the community
for generations; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the City of Sherrill has
demonstrated a commitment to effective and responsive local government,
operating under a City Manager form of government that emphasizes
professional administration, transparency, and service to residents; and

WHEREAS, Home to approximately 3,200 residents, Sherrill has
cultivated a strong civic culture supported by outstanding schools, an
active public library, dedicated civic organizations, youth programs,

community events, and engaged residents who take great pride in their
hometown; and

WHEREAS, Over the past 110 years, generations of residents, elected
officials, educators, business leaders, public servants, and volunteers
have worked tirelessly to build and sustain a community that honors its
history while embracing opportunities for future growth and success; and

WHEREAS, As the City of Sherrill celebrates its 110th Anniversary,
it is fitting to recognize this anniversary in the 250th anniversary of
our Great Nation, the many accomplishments that have distinguished this
remarkable community and to honor the people whose dedication has shaped
its enduring legacy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 110th Anniversary of the City of Sherrill and to
recognize its proud history, vibrant community spirit, and lasting
contributions to Oneida County, Central New York, and the State of New
York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the City of Sherrill in recognition of this historic
milestone and in appreciation of its 110 years of service to its
residents and the people of the Empire State.
