MOURNING the death of Christopher Johanson,
dedicated firefighter and cherished member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Johanson of Nelsonville, New York, died on
Thursday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 56; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Johanson distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Having lived a life dedicated to service, Christopher
Johanson achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and served as a volunteer
firefighter with the Valhalla Fire Department; he later joined the Lake
Mohegan Fire Department in August of 2000, where he amassed an
impressive 24 years of fire service; he was also a proud EMT and first
responder and was known for his commitment to his community; and
WHEREAS, Before a career in fire service, Christopher Johanson
worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Mount Pleasant Highway
Department; with many exceptional skills, he was also regarded as a
talented carpenter and mechanic; and
WHEREAS, Outside of his professional life, Christopher Johanson
enjoyed boating on the Hudson River and on Lake George; he enjoyed many
adventures in his RV and created countless cherished memories with his
family at the Jersey Shore; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Johanson's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Johanson is survived by his wife of 24 years,
Christine; son, Riley; daughters, Amanda and Elaina; siblings, Sonja and
Arvid; and parents, Arvid and Paula; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Christopher Johanson leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Christopher Johanson, dedicated firefighter, and
cherished member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Christopher Johanson.
