COMMEMORATING the 70th Anniversary of the Saratoga
Senior Center
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions whose purpose and endeavor have been
dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Saratoga Senior Center, located
on West Avenue in Saratoga Springs, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the 1940s, there was a Golden Age Club movement
across the country with the mantra, "age is no barrier"; and
WHEREAS, With that theme in mind, the Saratoga Senior Center began
in 1955 with its first home on Circular Street in Saratoga Springs; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of its seven decades of service, the
Saratoga Senior Center has relocated twice, yet its core mission has
remained steadfast-to empower seniors in achieving and maintaining
personal independence and well-being by offering a structured
environment with the necessary support services for healthy recreation,
companionship, social engagement, and problem-solving; and
WHEREAS, Since 2023, the Saratoga Senior Center has been situated on
Saratoga's West Avenue, serving as an indispensable resource to the
community, providing programs and services to over 3,700 individuals,
with an average of 200-250 daily visits to the center; and
WHEREAS, Regardless of its location, the Saratoga Senior Center has
remained the heart of Saratoga Springs, fostering socialization,
independence, healthy living, and creating lasting memories for
thousands of individuals; and
WHEREAS, Whether through art and fitness classes, educational
programs, support groups, excursions, or shared meals, the Saratoga
Senior Center serves as a home away from home for older adults; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its recreational and social offerings, the
Saratoga Senior Center also provides vital outreach services, including
advocacy, food assistance, transportation, caregiver support, social
palliative services for seniors with serious illness, and
volunteer/senior matching programs, all of which support seniors in
aging with dignity and independence; and
WHEREAS, With a proud and distinguished legacy, the staff of the
Saratoga Senior Center can reflect on their enduring commitment with
great pride, knowing that their dedication to serving the older adult
citizens of Saratoga County and beyond has profoundly impacted the lives
of many and contributed to the overall welfare of the community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Saratoga Senior Center in
Saratoga Springs, noting the propriety of its goals, the constancy of
its commitment, and the significance of its accomplishments; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Saratoga Senior Center, Saratoga Springs, New York.
