COMMEMORATING Uzbeki Heritage Day on August 31,
2025, and honoring the history, resilience, and
cultural contributions of the Uzbek community

WHEREAS, The strength of a society lies in the diversity, culture,
and history of its people, and the Uzbek community has made significant
contributions to the arts, sciences, and global culture over the
centuries; and

WHEREAS, Uzbeki Heritage Day, observed annually on August 31,
commemorates the Day of Uzbeki Independence, marking Uzbekistan's
declaration of independence from the Soviet Union on September 1, 1991,
and the establishment of the sovereign nation of Uzbekistan; and

WHEREAS, The Uzbek people have a rich and diverse cultural heritage,
with deep historical roots in Central Asia, and have made enduring
contributions to literature, music, architecture, and the sciences,
shaping the cultural landscape of the region for centuries; and

WHEREAS, The Uzbek community has shown resilience through various
periods of hardship, including political and social upheaval, and has
maintained a strong connection to its traditions, language, and cultural
practices; and

WHEREAS, Uzbek Americans and those of Uzbek descent have
significantly contributed to the United States in fields such as
business, education, arts, and government, while also sharing and
celebrating their cultural heritage with their communities; and

WHEREAS, It is essential to continue promoting education and
understanding of Uzbek history, language, and culture, ensuring that
their legacy is preserved and appreciated as an integral part of global
civilization; and

WHEREAS, The experiences of the Uzbek people, particularly their
path to independence, serve as an important reminder of the values of
freedom, self-determination, and the importance of preserving cultural
identity and sovereignty; and

WHEREAS, The State of New York recognizes and honors the enduring
legacy and contributions of the Uzbek community, reaffirming its
commitment to cultural inclusion, historical remembrance, and the
protection of human rights for all; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate August 31, 2025, as Uzbeki Heritage Day, acknowledging the
historical significance of Uzbek independence, honoring the resilience
of the Uzbek people, and reaffirming a commitment to education,
remembrance, and the celebration of cultural diversity.
