CONGRATULATING Colton Havens upon the occasion of
his capturing the 2025 NYSPHSAA Men's Division II
160-pound Wrestling Championship
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Canisteo-Greenwood High School's Colton Havens upon the occasion of his
capturing the NYSPHSAA Men's Division II 160-pound Wrestling
Championship at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York on Saturday, March 1,
2025; and
WHEREAS, Colton Havens went 4-0 at the State Tournament, defeating
his preliminary opponent with a 20-5 technical fall, his second opponent
with a pin fall in 1:32 and securing a 8-4 decision over his semifinal
opponent; and
WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of his family and exited fans,
Colton Havens secured the championship in his final bout with a score of
9-5; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding performance earned Colton Havens the
NYSPHSAA Men's Division II 160-pound Wrestling Championship; and
WHEREAS, Colton Havens is the second State Wrestling Champion in
Canisteo-Greenwood High School history, he is the school's first
four-time state place finisher and he is a five-time Section V Class B
Champion; and
WHEREAS, Colton Havens holds the Canisteo-Greenwood record for wins
in a season with 54, the school record for pins in a season with 40,
finished his season with a 54-3 record, and a career record of 255-33;
and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands focus, strength
and skill, Canisteo-Greenwood High School Wrestling Coaches Geoff Havens
and Phil Stewart worked hard to mentor and inspire Colton Havens in his
record-breaking season, teaching this outstanding athlete life lessons
which will prove invaluable on and off the field; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Colton Havens on an outstanding season which culminated in
his winning the 2025 NYSPHSAA Men's Division II 160-pound Wrestling
Championship and Coach Geoff Havens and Coach Phil Stewart for guiding
him during his history-making season; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Colton
Havens, Coach Geoff Havens, Coach Phil Stewart and Athletic Director
Bill Drake.
