COMMENDING Thomas J. Buono upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Lake
Delta Kiwanis Club of Rome

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this esteemed Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Thomas J.
Buono upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Lake Delta Kiwanis Club of Rome; this prestigious honor,
co-sponsored by the Vietnam Memorial Committee, will be awarded at the
8th Annual Veteran's Recognition Dinner at the Beeches Manor in Rome,
New York, on Saturday, May 10, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Buono was born and raised in Utica, New York; he
attended Utica College of Syracuse University and Mohawk Valley
Community College; he received a two-year degree from the University of
Maryland; and

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Buono entered the United States Army and served
his country with the 21st Signal & Aviation Group in Vietnam, ending his
tour as a Specialist 4th Class (Spec 4); he then served with the United
States Army National Guard; and

WHEREAS, For 38 years, Thomas J. Buono was employed by the United
States Postal Service; he was President of the American Postal Workers
Union for 32 years; and

WHEREAS, Active in his community, Thomas J. Buono is President of
the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 944, Chairman of the Captain
George A. Wood Post Office Veterans Committee, member of the Board of
Directors of Honor Flight Syracuse, Chairman of the Veterans Cemetery
Committee, Director of Wreaths Across America for six cemeteries located
in Rome, New York, and several other titles and affiliations with other
organizations; and

WHEREAS, In 2020, Thomas J. Buono was elected to the New York State
Veterans Hall of Fame; he works closely with the Gold Star Families
throughout Oneida County; and

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Buono is an asset to his family and community; he
and his wife, Elaine, reside in New Hartford, New York, and love
spending time with their three children, Gina, David, and Matthew, seven
grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism, both at home and abroad,
Thomas J. Buono demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended,
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and

for their dedication to their communities, their State, and their
Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Thomas J. Buono upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Lake Delta Kiwanis Club of Rome; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thomas J. Buono.
