LEGISLATIVE RESOLULTION commemorating International
Romani Day on April 8, 2025, and recognizing the
cultural heritage, resilience, and contributions of
the Romani people

WHEREAS, The strength of a society lies in the diversity, culture,
and traditions of its people, and the Roma have played an integral role
in the global cultural heritage for centuries; and

WHEREAS, International Romani Day, observed annually on April 8,
serves as an opportunity to celebrate the rich history, traditions, and
contributions of the Romani people, while also raising awareness of the
challenges they continue to face; and

WHEREAS, The Romani people have enriched the world through their
artistic expressions, including music, dance, and literature, which have
profoundly influenced global culture and society; and

WHEREAS, Despite centuries of adversity, discrimination, and
persecution, the Romani people have demonstrated extraordinary
resilience and perseverance in preserving their unique heritage and
identity; and

WHEREAS, It is essential to continue promoting education,
understanding and inclusion, fostering greater awareness and respect for
Romani communities worldwide; and

WHEREAS, The State of New York recognizes and celebrates the
contributions of the Romani people, honoring their achievements and
reaffirming a commitment to justice, equality, and human rights for all;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate International Romani Day on April 8, 2025, acknowledging the
history, culture, and invaluable contributions of the Romani people.
