COMMEMORATING May 26, 2025, as Georgian
Independence Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in recognizing the
rich heritage, history, and contributions of diverse communities,
including the Georgian-American community; and

WHEREAS, On May 26, 1991, the Republic of Georgia formally declared
its independence from the Soviet Union, restoring its sovereignty and
paving the way for a democratic future; and

WHEREAS, Georgian Independence Day is a time to honor the
resilience, courage, and determination of the Georgian people in their
pursuit of freedom, self-governance, and national identity; and

WHEREAS, The Georgian-American community has made valuable
contributions to the cultural, economic, and civic life of New York,
enriching the state's diverse social fabric; and

WHEREAS, The strong bilateral relationship between the United States
and Georgia is rooted in shared values of democracy, human rights, and
mutual cooperation, strengthening ties between both nations; and

WHEREAS, The State of New York recognizes May 26, 2025, as Georgian
Independence Day, celebrating Georgia's rich cultural heritage and its
ongoing journey as a proud and independent nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate May 26, 2025, as Georgian Independence Day, paying tribute
to the people of Georgia and their enduring spirit.
