CONGRATULATING Emily Rodriguez upon the occasion
of capturing the 2025 New York State Public High
School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls
Wrestling 185lbs Championship

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Emily
Rodriguez upon the occasion of capturing the 2025 New York State Public
High School Athletic Association Girls Wrestling 185lbs Championship on
Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the State Championship bracket, Emily Rodriguez
pinned all opponents to secure the first Nyack High School State
Championship in wrestling since 1988, and the first New York State Girls
Wrestling Championship in history; and

WHEREAS, Family, friends, and the community loyally and
enthusiastically supported Emily Rodriguez throughout this year's
wrestling season; and

WHEREAS, In addition to winning the 2025 NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling
185lbs Championship, Emily Rodriguez also ended the season as Section
One Wrestler of the Year and Section One All Section; and

WHEREAS, As a tri-varsity athlete, she also received the Coaches
Award in 2024 in lacrosse, has been a Section One All League field
hockey player in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and holds the school record for
most saves as goalie on the Nyack Field Hockey team, all while
maintaining high honor roll status from 2022-2025; and

WHEREAS, In achievement of these outstanding accomplishments, Emily
Rodriguez has clearly utilized dedication, determination, and hard work
in providing a lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is
a tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Emily Rodriguez, Head Coach JP Ospina, and Assistant
Coaches Vic Myers and Phil Kennedy on this outstanding season and the
occasion of capturing the 2025 New York State Public High School
Athletic Association Girls Wrestling 185lbs Championship; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Emily Rodriguez, Head Coach JP Ospina, Assistant Coaches
Vic Myers and Phil Kennedy, Trainer Wes Miller, Athletic Director Joseph
Sigillo, Superintendent of Schools Lizzette Ruiz-Giovinazzi, and
Principal Nicole Saieva.
