MOURNING the death of Frederick L. Simpson,
meritorious veteran, family man, and distinguished
member of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Frederick L. Simpson was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Frederick L. Simpson, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Frederick L. Simpson, of Amsterdam, New York, died on May
20, 2024, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 25, 1949, to Lionel T. and Dorothy Brooks
Simpson in Manchester, Connecticut, Frederick L. Simpson attended E.O.
Smith High School in Storrs, Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, Frederick L. Simpson and the former Mary-Anna Kelley were
united in marriage on June 26, 1971, and together they raised four
beautiful children; and
WHEREAS, A proud Vietnam Combat Veteran, earning a Bronze Star,
Frederick L. Simpson was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion Post
No. 137 in Gloversville, New York, as well as a Lifetime Member of the
VFW, DAV and the Mobile River Force Association; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was a member of the Amsterdam Elks Lodge
No. 101, where he was the current Tiler; he also held the post of the
Lodge Inner Guard; and
WHEREAS, An avid bowler, Frederick L. Simpson also enjoyed latch
hooking and won first place at the National Veterans Creative Arts
Festival in 2022; and
WHEREAS, While he was passionate about many things, above all his
greatest passion was being with his family, especially his grandchildren
whom he loved to spoil; and
WHEREAS, Frederick L. Simpson is survived by his wonderful children,
June-Marie Bottomley, Jessica (Michael Jr.) Fischer, Carolyn (Jonathan)
Porath, and Toni (Jason) Haberacker; and four cherished grandchildren,
Michael J. Fischer III, Harley-Grace Fischer, Kylee-Lynn Haberacker and
Magnolia R. Simpson-Porath; other surviving members of his family
include: Timi and Rock Ouellette, Elley Wooten, Joseph and Kimberley
Kelley, Carla and Chris Longo, Geri-Lynn Kelley (Doug Pinard), Donna
Kelley and Sunniva and Keith Brown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews,
great and great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins; and
WHEREAS, He is predeceased by his father, Lionel T. Simpson; mother,
Dorothy Brooks; stepmother, June Simpson; father-in-law, Thomas Kelley;
mother-in-law, Marie Kelley; sister, Judith M. Browder; stepsister,
Eilleen Briggs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Kelley Jr., Sandra
Kelley, John Kelley and Earl Wooten; and
WHEREAS, A man of deep Roman Catholic faith, Frederick L. Simpson's
infinite selflessness and benevolence will shine on through his family's
vivid and happy memories; his insight and strength will forever serve as
a beacon of love, light and hope to the countless lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Frederick L. Simpson leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will
be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Frederick L. Simpson, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Frederick L. Simpson.
