MOURNING the death of Joyce Diane Cartwright
Brown, distinguished citizen and devoted member of
her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to mourn
the death of Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of her community; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown died on September 4, 2023, at
the age of 54; and

WHEREAS, On December 6, 1968, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown was born
to Mary Ann Cartwright in Buffalo, New York, and raised by her beloved
grandparents, Nathan and Marie Cross; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown graduated from Kensington High
School; she earned her Associate of Occupational Studies in Medical
Office Management from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute; and

WHEREAS, Continuing her education, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown
received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Economics
from Empire State College and her Master of Public Administration degree
from Ashford University; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Dian Cartwright Brown's professional journey was
marked by her dedication and commitment to serving others; she spent 14
remarkable years at the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County where she
held various positions, including Special Event Manager, Special Project
Manager, and Development Program Manager; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown's passion for community
service led her to serve as Legislative Assistant under the Majority
Leader of the New York State Assembly; and

WHEREAS, A genuine love for her community was further expressed
through Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown's work at the Northland Workforce
Training Center where she started as Manager of Success Services and was
later promoted to Director of Success Services; she was also an active
member of The Buffalo Club of The National Association of Negro Business
and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown, a faith-filled, loving, and
passionate woman, lived a life that was a testament to the power of
love, dedication, and resilience, leaving a legacy of love and service
which will continue to inspire those who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown distinguished herself in her
profession and by her dedication and contribution to the welfare of her
community, State, and Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated individuals who devote their lives to the betterment of their
communities are worthy and due praise for their commitment and
endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown leaves a legacy which will
endure the passage of time and remain a memory to all she served and
befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown, distinguished citizen
and devoted member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Joyce Diane Cartwright Brown.
