RECOGNIZING June 23-29, 2025, as Amateur Radio
Week
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
and celebrate individuals and events of historic significance to this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York has more than 25,000 FCC-licensed
Amateur Radio operators; and
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio operators are on alert for any emergency,
local or worldwide, and publicly practice their communication skills
during the American Radio Relay League's Field Day exercise, June 28-29,
2025; and
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio operators have demonstrated their value in
public assistance by providing emergency radio communications during
storms, wildfires and other disasters; and
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio operators provide services free of any charge
to the communities in which they live, in the interest of the citizens
of New York and the world; and
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio operators regularly demonstrate their
readiness to respond in times of need; and
WHEREAS, Observing Amateur Radio Week in New York State will honor
the contributions of amateur radio operators and encourage public
awareness of their role in community service and emergency preparedness;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize June 23-29, 2025, as Amateur Radio Week.
