COMMEMORATING the 10th Anniversary of Binghamton
Porchfest on August 31, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those cultural events which foster community spirit, encourage
artistic expression, and bring residents together in celebration of
local heritage and talent; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Binghamton Porchfest, to be
celebrated on Sunday, August 31, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Binghamton Porchfest is a free, collaborative celebration
of music and community created by and for residents of the Abel Bennett
Historic Tract on the West Side of Binghamton, New York; and
WHEREAS, Held annually on the last Sunday in August, this grassroots
festival transforms the tree-lined streets, where television icon Rod
Serling once spent his youth, into an open-air stage alive with the
sounds of over 150 performances by local and regional musicians; and
WHEREAS, Musicians perform on dozens of residential porches, front
yards, and driveways, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which
thousands of attendees gather to dance in the streets, reconnect with
friends and neighbors, and enjoy lemonade offered by the neighborhood's
youngest residents; and
WHEREAS, Since its inaugural event in 2015, Binghamton Porchfest has
become one of the region's most anticipated and beloved cultural
celebrations; the 2021 edition featured 167 performances across 58
porches and engaged the energy and enthusiasm of more than 750
volunteers; and
WHEREAS, The festival showcases an eclectic mix of musical genres
that appeal to a wide array of tastes, offering a platform for emerging
local artists and beloved regional bands alike to share their talents
with an appreciative community; and
WHEREAS, Now marking its 10th year, Binghamton Porchfest continues
to embody the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and community
engagement that enriches the cultural fabric of Binghamton and the
Southern Tier; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to recognize and commend
such outstanding community initiatives which promote the arts, unite
neighbors, and contribute to the vibrancy and identity of our towns and
cities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Binghamton Porchfest on August 31,
2025, and to honor the organizers, volunteers, musicians, and residents
whose continued efforts have made this event a resounding success year
after year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the organizers of Binghamton Porchfest.
