COMMENDING the New York City Central Labor Council
upon the occasion of hosting its 143rd Annual Labor
Day Parade on September 6, 2025

WHEREAS, Labor Day serves to acknowledge the contributions and
achievements of workers and the labor movement in securing rights like
fair wages, safer working conditions, reasonable working hours, and
weekends free of work; and

WHEREAS, The very first Labor Day parade in the United State took
place in Manhattan, New York on September 5, 1882; this parade drew in
an estimated 10,000-20,000 participants consisting of laborers, union
representatives, men with flags, musical instruments, badges, and other
paraphernalia, all of whom marched pridefully through the streets of the
city; and

WHEREAS, This year, in honor of the dedicated workers of New York
State-past and present-the New York City Central Labor Council will host
its 143rd Annual Labor Day Parade on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in New
York City; and

WHEREAS, The New York City Central Labor Council (NYCCLC) is a
non-profit labor membership organization devoted to supporting,
advancing, and advocating for the working people of New York City; and

WHEREAS, As the nation's largest regional labor federation, the
NYCCLC brings together 300 local unions from every trade and occupation
from both the public and private sectors of the New York economy; and

WHEREAS, The NYCCLC represents more than one million workers,
including teachers, truck drivers, operating engineers, nurses,
construction workers, hospitality workers, electricians, firefighters,
retail workers, janitors, bakers, train operators, transit workers,
traffic wardens, police officers, EMTs, and countless others who
constitute and strengthen today's modern workforce; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious Labor Day parade is estimated to draw over
85,000 workers, their families, unions, constituency groups, labor
partners, bands, and more to the streets of New York City in a powerful
and vibrant display of solidarity and pride; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and achievements are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the New York City Central Labor Council upon the occasion of
hosting its 143rd Annual Labor Day Parade on September 6, 2025; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the New York City Central Labor Council.
