MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
October 16, 2025, as Get Smart About Your Credit Day
in the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
support initiatives that promote the financial literacy and long-term
well-being of the citizens of this great State, particularly among its
youth; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim October 16, 2025, as Get
Smart About Your Credit Day in the State of New York, in conjunction
with the observance of National Get Smart About Your Credit Day
WHEREAS, Financial literacy and responsible credit management are
essential to the economic well-being and stability of individuals and
families throughout New York State; and
WHEREAS, The third Thursday in October is annually observed as
National Get Smart About Your Credit Day, and this year falls on October
16, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Get Smart About Your Credit Day is part of the larger Get
Smart About Credit (G.S.A.C.) program, an initiative launched by the
American Bankers Association Foundation in 2003 with the goal of
educating young people about responsible credit use and financial
management; and
WHEREAS, The G.S.A.C. program mobilizes volunteer bankers from
across the country to provide free educational resources and guidance to
high school students and young adults on essential financial topics
including building and maintaining good credit, understanding how loans
affect credit scores, reducing loan costs, preventing identity theft,
creating budgets, and preparing for college expenses; and
WHEREAS, Financial responsibility is a vital life skill, and
introducing these principles at an early age fosters informed, empowered
individuals who are better prepared to manage their personal finances
and contribute positively to their communities and the economy; and
WHEREAS, This no-cost program reflects the dedication of the banking
community to improving financial literacy and accessibility for the next
generation, through webinars, events, and personal engagements both
in-person and virtually; and
WHEREAS, By supporting Get Smart About Your Credit Day, the State of
New York acknowledges the value of financial education and affirms its
commitment to empowering youth with knowledge that will serve them for a
lifetime; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim October 16, 2025, as Get
Smart About Your Credit Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York; and the American Bankers Association Foundation.
