HONORING Chief Robert Clontz upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished
service to the City of Tonawanda Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chief Robert Clontz upon the occasion of his retirement after 36 years
of distinguished service to the City of Tonawanda Police Department,
effective Saturday, January 3, 2026; and
WHEREAS, For over 36 years, Robert Clontz rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the City of Tonawanda Police
Department, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Filled with a strong sense of duty and a commitment to his
community, Robert Clontz began his career at the City of Tonawanda
Police Department on December 26, 1989; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career at the City of Tonawanda Police
Department, Robert Clontz was recognized for his performance and rose
through the ranks of officer, detective, lieutenant, detective
lieutenant, and, most recently, chief of police; and
WHEREAS, At the City of Tonawanda Police Department, Robert Clontz
was committed to helping his colleagues, and he trained and mentored
officers as a field training supervisor and firearms and less lethal
instructor; and
WHEREAS, During his service, Robert Clontz helped form the T-NT SWAT
Team, where he served for 18.5 years, including 12 years as team leader;
and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as police chief, Robert Clontz served with
loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty
and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts;
and
WHEREAS, To the many law enforcement personnel who have served
alongside him and those he has mentored and protected throughout his
career, the dedicated service of Chief Robert Clontz reflects the very
best of what it means to be a public servant; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Robert Clontz upon the occasion of his retirement after 36
years of distinguished service to the City of Tonawanda Police
Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chief Robert Clontz.
