CONGRATULATING Chief James Stauffiger upon the
occasion of his retirement after 31 years of
distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda
Police Department

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Chief James Stauffiger, upon the occasion of his retirement
on Thursday, February 19, 2026, after 31 years of distinguished service
to the Town of Tonawanda Police Department; and

WHEREAS, James Stauffiger served his country as a United States
Marine before becoming a police officer, and he committed his entire
adult life of service to his country and community; and

WHEREAS, First hired as a police officer for the Town of Tonawanda,
New York, on February 2, 1995, James Stauffiger rose through the ranks,
becoming Chief on October 7, 2019; during his tenure as Chief, he led
the Department through the COVID-19 pandemic and police reform efforts
mandated by New York State; and

WHEREAS, Working collaboratively with the community, the Town Board,
and the officers of the Department, James Stauffiger helped the Town of
Tonawanda develop and implement its Police Reform and Reinvention
Collaborative Plan in 2021, strengthening the relationship with the
community and reinforcing a commitment to transparency, accountability,
and progressive policing practices; and

WHEREAS, To the many law enforcement personnel who have served
alongside him and those he has mentored and protected throughout his
career, the dedicated service of James Stauffiger reflects the very best
of what it means to be a public servant; he has earned the admiration,
esteem, and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, While a proud member of the Town of Tonawanda Police
Department, James Stauffiger served his community with loyalty, honor,
and distinction; in his official acts, he was governed by a keen sense
of duty, assisting others in need and providing essential services to
members of his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Chief James Stauffiger upon the occasion of his retirement
after 31 years of distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda Police
Department; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chief James Stauffiger.
